The Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and the ESCP Business School have created a Dual Master’s in Management of Cultural Assets and Activities (MaBAC) to train professionals who can submit and manage new businesses relating to arts and culture, by providing them with innovative teaching and a combination of experience and managerial tools from teachers and professionals of international standing. Ca’ Foscari and ESCP Business School are jointly offering the opportunity to:

  • gain two Master’s qualifications from the two institutions on just one course;
  • access the European labour market;
  • experience teaching and training in two world capitals of culture;
  • share the experience of teaching staff consisting of academics from both institutions and
    professional experts.
  • access and international network of partner companies and institutions

The course will be held in Venice and in Paris.

PROGRAMME

The course offers an innovative teaching method, a combination of experiences and managerial tools of professors and professionals of international level. The learning of skills passes through an articulation of teaching components structured in the following courses:

Strategic and operational management of cultural organisations

Objective: to acquire the main strategic and organisational analytical instruments applied at cultural organisations. To examine the competitive dynamics in the cultural system.

Marketing of cultural products

Objective: to acquire the main instruments for cultural heritage and activities enhancement and communication. To examine interaction strategies with user communities and with the main actors in the cultural system.

Planning and control of cultural organisations

Objective: to demonstrate budgeting and control techniques in cultural organisations.

Project management in cultural organisations

Objective: to acquire the instruments and methods to lead projects in cultural businesses.

Technological innovation for cultural organisations

Objective: to explore the use and effects of new technologies in cultural management.

Arts and culture economics

Objective: economic analysis of the supply and demand of arts and culture.

Art market economics and analysis

Objective: sectoral development of the cultural system.

International and European law of cultural heritage

Objective: to demonstrate the national and international legislation for cultural organisations.

Cultural Policy

Objective: to learn about cultural policies and the enhancement of cultural heritage from an international perspective.

Finance and taxation of cultural institutions and products

Objective: analysis of financial performance factors of cultural organisations.

The Double Master takes place over 15 months from September 2023 to December 2024, during which lessons, exercises, business testimonials, discussion of company cases, company visits and project work will take place.

The official languages of the Master are English, French and Italian.

The general structure of the Double Masters in Management of Cultural Assets and Activities is inspired by the innovative approach of Research Based Learning (RBL). In a collaborative learning environment managed by professors from Ca’ Foscari and ESCP Business School, by non-academic personalities working in the Master’s content area, and by foreign professors and experts, the students of the Double Master follow the educational path characterizesd by the RBL approach:

  • project work on topics agreed with the Master’s partner institutions and with other external subjects;
  • interdisciplinary integration seminars;
  • frontal lessons;
  • discussion of business cases;
  • testimonials from protagonists of the conception and launch of cultural events;
  • dissemination meetings of research results planned and managed by the students, both for the public and by invitation;
  • in-depth study on specific topics, to be coordinated on an individual and group level;
  • company visits and interviews.

Course attendance is compulsory and takes place:

– for the first half in Venice

at the Patriarchal Seminary of Venice. Dorsoduro 1, Venice

from September 11th to mid-December 2023

– for the second half in Paris

at ESCP Business School, Avenue de la République 79, 11ème arrondissement, Paris

from the very beginning of January 2024 to the end of March 2024

An optional but strongly recommended preliminary course of 30 hours (from September 4th to 8th, 2023) with basic contents of economics, business economics and law is foreseen. There are also French and Italian language courses.

The lessons will be enriched by conferences and in-depth seminars entrusted to external teachers from specific cultural businesses or to prominent personalities from the cultural world. These conferences and seminars will take place outside the fixed lesson hours.

A training internship lasting at least 4 months (between April and October) in European companies and cultural institutions is foreseen. In recent years, some institutions with which internships have been activated from Italy through Ca’ Foscari University are:

Admission requirements

Enrolment in a university Master’s Programme requires having different academic qualifications depending on whether the Master’s Programme is Level I or Level II.

Level I Master’s Programme

  • Degree
  • 5-year University Degree (before Ministerial Decree 509/99)

Level II Master’s Programme

  • Master’s Degree
  • Postgraduate
  • 5-year University Degree (before Ministerial Decree 509/99)

Admission application

Before applying, please make sure that you have online identity (SPID) credentials..

The admission procedure is fully online and involves these steps:

  • Registration with the University’s website: enter your personal data, residence and, if necessary, domicile. At the end of the registration process, you will be temporarily assigned a User Name and Password, which become active from the following day and which give you access for the next registration phase. If you already have access to the reserved area (e.g. as a former student of the University), go directly to the next point. For forgotten or expired passwords, renewal too will take effect from the following day.
  • Filling in and submitting the application online using your SPID credentials: after accessing your reserved area, choose the type of course and then the course that you want to enrol in.
    Along with the application, you must attach the following:

    • the form filled in as a self-certification of the valid qualification for admission;
    • your Curriculum Vitae;
    • a valid identity document;
    • any other documents required for admission to the Master’s Programme.
  • Where applicable, pay the admission fee to the Master’s Programme (the ‘Payments’ button is in the Reserved Area).

As per Royal Decree No. 1532, Art. 142 of 31/08/1933, simultaneous applications are not allowed for several Italian or foreign universities, or university institutes and equivalent, or for several study courses at the same University. If you are enrolled in a course and you want to enrol in another one for which simultaneous enrollment is not allowed, you may suspend your application for the first course according to the provisions of specific national or individual universities, or you may close the position by withdrawing from the first course to then enrol in the second one.

You can apply for the Ca’ Foscari Challenge School Master’s Programmes also if you are an Italian or a non-Italian citizen and you have an academic qualification obtained abroad that is equivalent in level, duration and content to the Italian academic qualification required for admission to the relevant course.

Students who hold a qualification awarded outside Italy must upload the diploma supplement or, for qualifications awarded outside the European Union, a copy of the diploma translated and legalised in Italian or English accompanied by the Certificate of equivalence of qualification drawn up by the Italian diplomatic-consular Representation in the country where the qualification was obtained, or a certificate issued by foreign official bodies, or a certificate issued by ENIC-NARIC centres. Admission remains, however, subject to the evaluation of the suitability of the qualification by the Welcome Unit of the International Relations Office, on recommendation of the Academic Board, for the sole purpose of enrolment in the Master’s Programmes.

Registration

To confirm your intention to participate in the Master’s Programme, you will have to pre-register through the online procedure in the Reserved area by the dates set for each Master’s course, and make the necessary payments.
While filling in the forms, you will be asked to upload the following documents:

– a passport-type photo (in .jpeg format);
– a copy of a valid identity document;
– your tax code;
– a self-certification of the qualification valid for admission according to the attached form.

At the end of the Enrolment Form is the “Payments” button, which you can click on for instructions on how to pay the first instalment (plus a €16.00 revenue stamp).

The completion of enrolment will be carried out by the Postgraduate Administration Unit within 10 working days of the registration deadline. You will receive confirmation of enrolment by e-mail, together with your new access credentials (matriculation number and password) to access the reserved area of the University’s website and e-mail service. The new credentials replace the ones which you obtained when registering with the site and which will cease to be valid.

If you are a non-Italian citizen or if you have a non-Italian qualification, you will be contacted by the Welcome Unit of the International Relations Office of Ca’ Foscari University Venice, to complete your enrolment in the Master’s Programme. Your enrolment will be dealt with in the back office once you have uploaded to your application area these documents:

  • diploma supplement
    or, for qualifications obtained outside the European Union, a copy of the translated and legalised diploma in Italian or English accompanied by the ” Certificate of equivalence of qualification“, certified by the Italian diplomatic-consular Representation in the country in which the qualification was awarded, or a certificate from foreign official bodies or statement issued by ENIC-NARIC centres;
  • photocopy of identity document (or of your passport if you are a non-European citizen);
  • Student visa (if you have one);
  • curriculum vitae;
  • tax code (if you have one);
  • residence permit (if you have one).

The Welcome Unit reserves the right to contact applicants to verify original documents. The Unit will also provide support for visas, residence permits, tax codes, INPS (social security) registration, and welcoming procedures in the University in general.

The confirmation of the start of the Master’s Programme will be notified at the end of pre-registration. The Master’s Programme will be confirmed when the minimum number of participants is reached.

Fees and concessions

Registration fees are divided into two instalments:
– the first, which is payable when pre-registering together with the revenue stamp (€16.00). The payment of the first instalment is a confirmation of enrolment;
– the second, payable by the due-date indicated in the Attached Presentation.

Payment will be made through the Public Administration’s ” PagoPA” system.
You can choose whether to pay:
– online: click on the “Pay online” button and select between credit card (using one of the banks proposed) or by bank transfer (home banking: look at the list of banks whether yours is present; if so, simply select it to go ahead with payment).
– in person: click on the “Payment Notice” button and print out the payment notice, which you must present at one of the authorised merchants, or one of the banks listed on the PagoPA system;
– if registering through your company or other body, please write to master.challengeschool@unive.it The amounts and deadlines for the payment of instalments are given in the individual Attachments of Presentation of the Master’s Programme.

An agreement is in place with the bank “Intesa Sanpaolo” for applicants who want to apply for a subsidised loan to participate in our Master’s Programmes.

Accommodation

The “Housing” service is intended for Italian and international students as well as international researchers, Professors and university employees who come to Venice to study or work at Ca’ Foscari. This office helps in finding suitable, affordable accommodation in student residences, flats/apartments, or hotels that have an ongoing agreement with the Ca’ Foscari Challenge School.

The Housing Office matches applicants’ inquiries and preferences with available accommodation facilities. The Office can also help find temporary accommodation that best meets the user’s needs and budgets, and provide other information on Venetian residency.

Certificates and withdrawals

Certifications issued by public organisations regarding statuses, personal qualities and other information are valid only in relations between private individuals; in relations with public organisations, certificates are replaced by substitute declarations (self-certification/affidavit) made by the interested party (as per Art. 15 of Law No. 183 of 12/11/2011).

The following may be required:

  • certificates of registration;
  • academic certificates.
  • Certifications can be obtained:
  • by applying personally by appointment, to the Postgraduate Administration Unit, with a €16.00 revenue stamp for each certificate requested;
  • by post, indicating the type of certificate and the address to which it should be sent. The application must be accompanied by a copy of a valid identity document and a €16.00 revenue stamp for each certificate requested;
  • by e-mail to postlauream@unive.it, indicating, also in this case, the type of certificate and the address to which it should be sent. The application must be accompanied by a copy of a valid identity document and the receipt of payment, to be made online, of a €16.00 revenue stamp for each certificate.

    Certificates may also be issued in English on request.
    It is possible to delegate the collection of certificates to another person provided that the person presents a written proxy and a photocopy of an identity document of the delegating person.

Translation and legalisation

To obtain a translation of the certificate into another language, it is necessary to contact either a sworn translator registered as a ‘CTU’ in the appropriate Courts register, or the diplomatic and consular representatives of the country of destination.

For legalisation of documents produced originally in Italy, please contact the Prefettura. If your original was produced outside of Italy, you will need to apply to the legalisation service of that country.

Withdrawal from studies

Students may apply at any time to withdraw from their studies: such applications are irrevocable and must be submitted as an original copy to the Post Graduate Administration Unit (Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia – Dorsoduro, 3246 – 30123 Venezia) using the appropriate form. The withdrawal form must also be sent by email to master.challengeschool@unive.it. The stamp to be affixed is €16.

Withdrawal from the course, as well as exclusion, does not remove the obligation to pay any outstanding instalments.

Unfortunately, no refunds can be granted of registration fees that have already been paid.

Examinations and diploma

To be admitted to the final examination, you must have attended the course/s provided by the Master’s course (respecting the attendance obligations provided by your course), completed your internship and passed the intermediate exams.

To apply for the final examination, you must:

  • be up-to-date with payments of all fees;
  • have filled in the AlmaLaurea questionnaire, inside the private area
  • submit (online) your application to sit your final examination by going to the private area (the application must be accompanied by the receipt of completion of the AlmaLaurea questionnaire).

Starting from the 2015-2016 editions, at the end of the online procedure, you must pay the €16 revenue stamp (“Payments” section) without additional fees, by a credit/prepaid card belonging to the Visa or Master Card circuits.

For your certificate to be awarded, you must submit the application for the final examination along with proof of payment of the revenue stamp.

Those enrolled in the course who have passed the final examination are awarded a Level I or Level II University Master’s Programme Diploma.

After obtaining a University Master’s Programme Diploma, you can enrol in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree course, with possible recognition of credits in lieu of the courses envisaged in the Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree courses.

If you would like to receive your diploma by post, please apply in writing by email to postlauream@unive.it giving your geographical address and telephone number. Remember to attach to the email a copy of your identity card and the receipt of payment of shipping costs (€12 for Italy, €25 for Europe, and €40 for non-EU countries). INTERNSHIP

Internships are a fundamental stage of the process and we provide optimal conditions for an exclusive opportunity for Master’s degree students to develop their careers.
The Master’s Programme includes an opportunity for an internship, i.e. a period of training at a company or specific sector entity during which the student will come into first contact with the working world.
The internship provides an important opportunity for building professionalism and direct knowledge of daily working life. Through this experience, students in the Master’s Programme may verify the practical application of the notions acquired in their coursework and familiarize themselves with a company organizational context in which to experience a specific work activity.
Over the years, we have set up an extensive network available to our students to identify the situations best suited to their professional needs. When students request, we consider new arrangements with organizations of greater interest to them.
Long-term partnerships ensure efficacy, along with a course design created with the two tutors – one from the company and the other from the university – with clear goals and a professional consolidation plan.
We thus ensure that our students form privileged relationships and consolidate their position at the company.

Master’s degree internships are based on a three-year agreement between Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and the partner organization and a training plan developed with the company and university tutors.

These documents must be prepared by the student with a contact at the host organization and sent to Ca’ Foscari Challenge School and the Master’s Programme tutor at least one week prior to the start of the internship.

  • The training process of a Master’s Programme may include multiple internships, provided that they begin before the Master’s is concluded (in other words, they may continue beyond that date) and the sum of all internships completed is not more than twelve months or less than one month;
  • Internships are not considered employment because the intern’s presence at the company is not subject to contractual agreements;
    However, total weekly hours may not exceed 40 and there must be a lunch break during full-time days. Any hours of leave must be agreed upon by the company and intern;
  • The minimum duration of the internship depends on the number of credits in the Master’s Programme. In other words, the number of hours must be sufficient to obtain the CFUs indicated in the syllabus (one credit will be assigned per every 25 hours of activity);
  • Benefits (expense reimbursements, meal vouchers or other benefits that the host company may offer to the intern during the internship): Italian law does not require the host organization to provide such benefits. The accounting treatment of any benefits will be the sole responsibility of the host organization, which must verify the conditions for providing them. The most common benefits are reimbursement for subscriptions to public transport and reimbursement for lunch;
  • All bureaucratic aspects of internships, including notifying the Local Labour Inspectorate of commencement, are handled by the Challenge School.

MANDATORY GENERAL SAFETY COURSE

In accordance with Legislative Decree No. 81/2008, as amended, and the agreements between the Italian central government and regions of 21/12/2011 and 07/07/2016, during the internship period, as a student you are equivalent to a worker, and you must therefore receive adequate workplace health and safety training.

Before beginning your stage, you must therefore ensure that you have fulfilled your general safety course obligation.

All Master’s degree students will receive an e-mail inviting them to attend the course to fulfil their obligation or may submit any certificates in their possession to request that the obligation be waived, according to the instructions provided in the invitation.

Students are reminded that training programmes cannot begin until this obligation is fulfilled.

AGREEMENTS

First of all, check that there is an agreement in place between Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and the host entity by accessing the specific list in the reserved area.

If an agreement is not in place with the company, or if the agreement was stipulated prior to January 2014, a new agreement must be completed and signed. This can be done through the online form.

STAMP DUTY

With effect from 1 January 2023, internship agreements are once again liable to stamp duty according to the provisions of Presidential Decree 642/1972. You will therefore need to follow the instructions below for the appropriate category.

  • You are a PRIVATE entity/company: The agreement is liable to stamp duty borne by the host entity. You will therefore need to purchase two €16 duty stamps, for a total of €32. In the “Internship and Job Management System: Companies Section”, which you will access in the following step, there are two ways to pay the tax:
    • using the university PagoPA system, which will pay stamp duty virtually, pursuant to Art. 15 of Presidential Decree 642/1972;
    • or virtually, pursuant to Art. 15 of Presidential Decree 642/1972, with the relevant authorisation from the Italian Agency of Revenue, which you have obtained. The details of the authorisation will need to be entered into the form for applying for a new agreement.

  • You are a member of the PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION: Per Art. 7 of the Agreement, stamp duty is borne by the promoting entity.
  • You are VOLUNTARY SECTOR ENTITY (pursuant to Legislative Decree 117 of 03/07/2017, published in Official Journal 179 of 02/08/2017): The agreement is exempt from stamp duty as the host entity is a voluntary sector entity, pursuant to the Voluntary Sector Code, Legislative Decree 117 of 03/07/2017, published in Official Journal 179 of 02/08/2017.

IN ITALY

If no agreement exists, one must be completed following the instructions below.

  • Connect to the page “Internship and Job Management System: Companies Section” and click on the option “Register”.
  • Register your company details (only the first time you use the service), filling in the related fields.
  • Wait for the e-mail with your access credentials and use them to access the Internship and Job Management System.
  • Fill in all fields of the form to apply for a new agreement and when you are done filling them in click on the “Send Request” button: the text of the agreement to be downloaded and signed will be automatically generated.
  • View the document, “Obligations of the host entity – personal data”, which will be sent to you after the agreement has been signed by both parties in accordance with Art. 8 “Personal data processing” of the agreement;
  • In the field of the form entitled “E-mail for communications regarding personal data processing” provide an e-mail address for the company/entity to be contacted in the event of need relating to data processing.

After the agreement has been automatically generated in the Internship Management System in PDF/A format and downloaded, the legal representative must apply his or her certified digital signature. The formats accepted are: preferably the pades format (.pdf), or the cades format (.pdf.p7m).

Agreements with the following types of signature will not be accepted:

  • by hand
  • scanned
  • image format

The digitally signed agreement must be uploaded in the “Send Agreement” box and sent by clicking on “Validate and Send”.

PLEASE NOTE: In the absence of a certified digital signature, for private and voluntary sector entities only, you will be required to print the agreement generated in the Internship Management System, have it signed with original hand signature by the legal representative and sent by registered mail to: Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia, Ufficio Career Service – Settore Tirocini Italia, Dorsoduro 3246 – 30123 Venice.

The agreement will be activated within ten business days of uploading to the Internship Management System. If there are errors or the agreement has been sent by registered letter, the activation procedure may require more time. As soon as the agreement enters into effect, you will receive an e-mail confirming its approval and the document countersigned by the university will be uploaded to the Internship Management System.

We will also return to you a countersigned copy of the agreement, along with the Obligations of the Host Entity – personal data officer, via certified e-mail (PEC) or e-mail where PEC is not available.

Only once the agreement has entered into force will the intern be able to fill in the training project from his or her reserved area.
The intern may verify the state of activation of the agreement by searching for the company’s name in the list of participating companies in his or her reserved area.

ABROAD

In order to activate an internship, the host entity must enter into an agreement with the university. If an agreement has already been entered into recently, the training project may be prepared in accordance with the company and university tutors.

If there is still no agreement with the entity (or the agreement is not recent), the company/entity must enter into an agreement with our university using the Internship Management System through the specific online application, completing all steps indicated on the page Offering and activating internships abroad;

It is highly recommended that the procedure be activated at least a month and a half before the internship begins to prepare the initial documentation and put the relevant insurance policies into place.
After receiving the documentation and performing the specific verification, we will put the agreement online, so that you may proceed with the training project.

For students with non-EU citizenship, the expiry and renewal of their permits of stay must be verified before their departure. Consult the Orientation and Reception Department for any doubts.

TRAINING PROJECT AND RELATED DOCUMENTATION

IN ITALY

After receiving a positive opinion from their university tutors, interns must prepare a training project, reaching an agreement with the company tutor regarding the location, period, time, method of execution (in physical presence or hybrid formula), the activities to be performed and any benefits (reimbursement of expenses, cafeteria, etc.) for the internship.

Interns should complete the training project in their Reserved Area > Internship in Italy > Internship set-up and management and have it signed by their company tutor and university tutor (usually the Director of the Master’s Programme), in addition to signing it themselves, and send it by e-mail to the Master’s Programme tutor ten days before the beginning of the internship. At the same time, the intern must sign the Intern’s Declaration of Responsibility generated along with the training project. It is all sent to the tutor.

The host entity and student will need to have a copy of the training project signed by all parties before the internship begins. For the purposes of any monitoring or participation in financed tenders, the intern must keep a copy of all documentation, including a copy of the training project, bearing all three signatures in the original. Ca’ Foscari Challenge School will submit the report to the competent Local Labour Inspectorate by e-mail.

If during the internship there are trips to offices other than that specified, please indicate this under the item “objectives and methods of the internship”. If this has not been specified in the training project, an ad hoc form will need to be completed in the event of travel (see the section “Conduct and conclusion of the internship”). Internships in Italy can currently be held in physical presence, remotely or in hybrid mode.

ABROAD

After reaching an agreement with your company tutor and receiving a favourable opinion from your university tutor: you will have to prepare a training project using the online application, following this procedure: complete the training project in English.

The system generates:

  •  a memorandum;
  •  three copies of the training project;
  •  an attendance register;
  •  the intern’s declaration of responsibility.

All copies of the training project must bear the signature of the university tutor, company tutor and the intern and the documents must be sent to the Master’s Programme tutor at least ten days before the internship begins. At the same time, the intern must sign the Intern’s Declaration of Responsibility generated along with the training project. It is all sent to the tutor.

CONDUCT AND CONCLUSION OF THE INTERNSHIP

Along with the training project, an attendance register is generated. This document is used to record the intern’s presence at the company and the number of hours completed.
It must be completed as accurately as possible for safety and insurance reasons, as well to ensure recognition of credit. Accordingly, it must be updated daily by the intern during the internship, recording the hours of presence, countersigned by the company tutor.

IN ITALY

At the end of the internship, you must send the final scanned documentation by e-mail to the address master.challengeschool@unive.it and to the Master’s Programme tutor.

Along with the company tutor, you must also complete the final questionnaires: to ensure that the applications function properly, the “internship questionnaire” must be completed first. The company tutor will then receive an e-mail with access to the questionnaire. The internship questionnaire is available at the following address: Reserved area > Internship in Italy > Start and management of internship > Complete questionnaire.

In the event of changes to the training project (extension, interruption, travel, days, hours, company tutor, etc.), complete the training project change form.

This form, completed and signed, must be sent scanned by e-mail to the address master.challengeschool@unive.it and to the Master’s Programme tutor in appropriate advance of the planned date of the travel/change.

ABROAD

Half-way through the internship period, the intern must complete the Intermediate assessment questionnaire.

Interruptions, extensions and travel must be reported to the International Internship Department, along with modifications to the Training Project – Training Agreement that relate to early interruptions, extensions or travel, by e-mail to the address stage.estero@unive.it appropriately in advance. The Interruption, extension or travel form prepared for the mandatory communications required by law must be used.

Once the internship has been concluded, you must send the final documentation to the International Internship Department in the original during office hours or by e-mail (as a single PDF file), within 15 days of conclusion.

Along with the company tutor, you must also complete the final questionnaires: to ensure that the applications function properly, the “internship questionnaire” must be completed first. The company tutor will then receive an e-mail with access to the questionnaire. The course offers an innovative teaching method, a combination of experiences and managerial tools of professors and professionals of international level. The learning of skills passes through an articulation of teaching components structured in the following courses:

Strategic and operational management of cultural organisations

Objective: to acquire the main strategic and organisational analytical instruments applied at cultural organisations. To examine the competitive dynamics in the cultural system.

Marketing of cultural products

Objective: to acquire the main instruments for cultural heritage and activities enhancement and communication. To examine interaction strategies with user communities and with the main actors in the cultural system.

Planning and control of cultural organisations

Objective: to demonstrate budgeting and control techniques in cultural organisations.

Project management in cultural organisations

Objective: to acquire the instruments and methods to lead projects in cultural businesses.

Technological innovation for cultural organisations

Objective: to explore the use and effects of new technologies in cultural management.

Arts and culture economics

Objective: economic analysis of the supply and demand of arts and culture.

Art market economics and analysis

Objective: sectoral development of the cultural system.

International and European law of cultural heritage

Objective: to demonstrate the national and international legislation for cultural organisations.

Cultural Policy

Objective: to learn about cultural policies and the enhancement of cultural heritage from an international perspective.

Finance and taxation of cultural institutions and products

Objective: analysis of financial performance factors of cultural organisations.

The Double Master takes place over 15 months from September 2023 to December 2024, during which lessons, exercises, business testimonials, discussion of company cases, company visits and project work will take place.

The official languages of the Master are English, French and Italian.

The general structure of the Double Masters in Management of Cultural Assets and Activities is inspired by the innovative approach of Research Based Learning (RBL). In a collaborative learning environment managed by professors from Ca’ Foscari and ESCP Business School, by non-academic personalities working in the Master’s content area, and by foreign professors and experts, the students of the Double Master follow the educational path characterizesd by the RBL approach:

  • project work on topics agreed with the Master’s partner institutions and with other external subjects;
  • interdisciplinary integration seminars;
  • frontal lessons;
  • discussion of business cases;
  • testimonials from protagonists of the conception and launch of cultural events;
  • dissemination meetings of research results planned and managed by the students, both for the public and by invitation;
  • in-depth study on specific topics, to be coordinated on an individual and group level;
  • company visits and interviews.

Course attendance is compulsory and takes place:

– for the first half in Venice

at the Patriarchal Seminary of Venice. Dorsoduro 1, Venice

from September 11th to mid-December 2023

– for the second half in Paris

at ESCP Business School, Avenue de la République 79, 11ème arrondissement, Paris

from the very beginning of January 2024 to the end of March 2024

An optional but strongly recommended preliminary course of 30 hours (from September 4th to 8th, 2023) with basic contents of economics, business economics and law is foreseen. There are also French and Italian language courses.

The lessons will be enriched by conferences and in-depth seminars entrusted to external teachers from specific cultural businesses or to prominent personalities from the cultural world. These conferences and seminars will take place outside the fixed lesson hours.

A training internship lasting at least 4 months (between April and October) in European companies and cultural institutions is foreseen. In recent years, some institutions with which internships have been activated from Italy through Ca’ Foscari University are:

Enrolment in a university Master’s Programme requires having different academic qualifications depending on whether the Master’s Programme is Level I or Level II.

Admission application

Before applying, please make sure that you have online identity (SPID) credentials..

The admission procedure is fully online and involves these steps:

  • Registration with the University’s website: enter your personal data, residence and, if necessary, domicile. At the end of the registration process, you will be temporarily assigned a User Name and Password, which become active from the following day and which give you access for the next registration phase. If you already have access to the reserved area (e.g. as a former student of the University), go directly to the next point. For forgotten or expired passwords, renewal too will take effect from the following day.
  • Filling in and submitting the application online using your SPID credentials: after accessing your reserved area, choose the type of course and then the course that you want to enrol in.
    Along with the application, you must attach the following:

    • the form filled in as a self-certification of the valid qualification for admission;
    • your Curriculum Vitae;
    • a valid identity document;
    • any other documents required for admission to the Master’s Programme.
  • Where applicable, pay the admission fee to the Master’s Programme (the ‘Payments’ button is in the Reserved Area).

As per Royal Decree No. 1532, Art. 142 of 31/08/1933, simultaneous applications are not allowed for several Italian or foreign universities, or university institutes and equivalent, or for several study courses at the same University. If you are enrolled in a course and you want to enrol in another one for which simultaneous enrollment is not allowed, you may suspend your application for the first course according to the provisions of specific national or individual universities, or you may close the position by withdrawing from the first course to then enrol in the second one.

You can apply for the Ca’ Foscari Challenge School Master’s Programmes also if you are an Italian or a non-Italian citizen and you have an academic qualification obtained abroad that is equivalent in level, duration and content to the Italian academic qualification required for admission to the relevant course.

Students who hold a qualification awarded outside Italy must upload the diploma supplement or, for qualifications awarded outside the European Union, a copy of the diploma translated and legalised in Italian or English accompanied by the Certificate of equivalence of qualification drawn up by the Italian diplomatic-consular Representation in the country where the qualification was obtained, or a certificate issued by foreign official bodies, or a certificate issued by ENIC-NARIC centres. Admission remains, however, subject to the evaluation of the suitability of the qualification by the Welcome Unit of the International Relations Office, on recommendation of the Academic Board, for the sole purpose of enrolment in the Master’s Programmes.

Registration

To confirm your intention to participate in the Master’s Programme, you will have to pre-register through the online procedure in the Reserved area by the dates set for each Master’s course, and make the necessary payments.
While filling in the forms, you will be asked to upload the following documents:

– a passport-type photo (in .jpeg format);
– a copy of a valid identity document;
– your tax code;
– a self-certification of the qualification valid for admission according to the attached form.

At the end of the Enrolment Form is the “Payments” button, which you can click on for instructions on how to pay the first instalment (plus a €16.00 revenue stamp).

The completion of enrolment will be carried out by the Postgraduate Administration Unit within 10 working days of the registration deadline. You will receive confirmation of enrolment by e-mail, together with your new access credentials (matriculation number and password) to access the reserved area of the University’s website and e-mail service. The new credentials replace the ones which you obtained when registering with the site and which will cease to be valid.

If you are a non-Italian citizen or if you have a non-Italian qualification, you will be contacted by the Welcome Unit of the International Relations Office of Ca’ Foscari University Venice, to complete your enrolment in the Master’s Programme. Your enrolment will be dealt with in the back office once you have uploaded to your application area these documents:

  • diploma supplement
    or, for qualifications obtained outside the European Union, a copy of the translated and legalised diploma in Italian or English accompanied by the ” Certificate of equivalence of qualification“, certified by the Italian diplomatic-consular Representation in the country in which the qualification was awarded, or a certificate from foreign official bodies or statement issued by ENIC-NARIC centres;
  • photocopy of identity document (or of your passport if you are a non-European citizen);
  • Student visa (if you have one);
  • curriculum vitae;
  • tax code (if you have one);
  • residence permit (if you have one).

The Welcome Unit reserves the right to contact applicants to verify original documents. The Unit will also provide support for visas, residence permits, tax codes, INPS (social security) registration, and welcoming procedures in the University in general.

The confirmation of the start of the Master’s Programme will be notified at the end of pre-registration. The Master’s Programme will be confirmed when the minimum number of participants is reached.

Fees and concessions

Registration fees are divided into two instalments:
– the first, which is payable when pre-registering together with the revenue stamp (€16.00). The payment of the first instalment is a confirmation of enrolment;
– the second, payable by the due-date indicated in the Attached Presentation.

Payment will be made through the Public Administration’s ” PagoPA” system.
You can choose whether to pay:
– online: click on the “Pay online” button and select between credit card (using one of the banks proposed) or by bank transfer (home banking: look at the list of banks whether yours is present; if so, simply select it to go ahead with payment).
– in person: click on the “Payment Notice” button and print out the payment notice, which you must present at one of the authorised merchants, or one of the banks listed on the PagoPA system;
– if registering through your company or other body, please write to master.challengeschool@unive.it The amounts and deadlines for the payment of instalments are given in the individual Attachments of Presentation of the Master’s Programme.

An agreement is in place with the bank “Intesa Sanpaolo” for applicants who want to apply for a subsidised loan to participate in our Master’s Programmes.

Accommodation

The “Housing” service is intended for Italian and international students as well as international researchers, Professors and university employees who come to Venice to study or work at Ca’ Foscari. This office helps in finding suitable, affordable accommodation in student residences, flats/apartments, or hotels that have an ongoing agreement with the Ca’ Foscari Challenge School.

The Housing Office matches applicants’ inquiries and preferences with available accommodation facilities. The Office can also help find temporary accommodation that best meets the user’s needs and budgets, and provide other information on Venetian residency.

Certificates and withdrawals

Certifications issued by public organisations regarding statuses, personal qualities and other information are valid only in relations between private individuals; in relations with public organisations, certificates are replaced by substitute declarations (self-certification/affidavit) made by the interested party (as per Art. 15 of Law No. 183 of 12/11/2011).

The following may be required:

  • certificates of registration;
  • academic certificates.
  • Certifications can be obtained:
  • by applying personally by appointment, to the Postgraduate Administration Unit, with a €16.00 revenue stamp for each certificate requested;
  • by post, indicating the type of certificate and the address to which it should be sent. The application must be accompanied by a copy of a valid identity document and a €16.00 revenue stamp for each certificate requested;
  • by e-mail to postlauream@unive.it, indicating, also in this case, the type of certificate and the address to which it should be sent. The application must be accompanied by a copy of a valid identity document and the receipt of payment, to be made online, of a €16.00 revenue stamp for each certificate.

    Certificates may also be issued in English on request.
    It is possible to delegate the collection of certificates to another person provided that the person presents a written proxy and a photocopy of an identity document of the delegating person.

Translation and legalisation

To obtain a translation of the certificate into another language, it is necessary to contact either a sworn translator registered as a ‘CTU’ in the appropriate Courts register, or the diplomatic and consular representatives of the country of destination.

For legalisation of documents produced originally in Italy, please contact the Prefettura. If your original was produced outside of Italy, you will need to apply to the legalisation service of that country.

Withdrawal from studies

Students may apply at any time to withdraw from their studies: such applications are irrevocable and must be submitted as an original copy to the Post Graduate Administration Unit (Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia – Dorsoduro, 3246 – 30123 Venezia) using the appropriate form. The withdrawal form must also be sent by email to master.challengeschool@unive.it. The stamp to be affixed is €16.

Withdrawal from the course, as well as exclusion, does not remove the obligation to pay any outstanding instalments.

Unfortunately, no refunds can be granted of registration fees that have already been paid.

Examinations and diploma

To be admitted to the final examination, you must have attended the course/s provided by the Master’s course (respecting the attendance obligations provided by your course), completed your internship and passed the intermediate exams.

To apply for the final examination, you must:

  • be up-to-date with payments of all fees;
  • have filled in the AlmaLaurea questionnaire, inside the private area
  • submit (online) your application to sit your final examination by going to the private area (the application must be accompanied by the receipt of completion of the AlmaLaurea questionnaire).

Starting from the 2015-2016 editions, at the end of the online procedure, you must pay the €16 revenue stamp (“Payments” section) without additional fees, by a credit/prepaid card belonging to the Visa or Master Card circuits.

For your certificate to be awarded, you must submit the application for the final examination along with proof of payment of the revenue stamp.

Those enrolled in the course who have passed the final examination are awarded a Level I or Level II University Master’s Programme Diploma.

After obtaining a University Master’s Programme Diploma, you can enrol in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree course, with possible recognition of credits in lieu of the courses envisaged in the Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree courses.

If you would like to receive your diploma by post, please apply in writing by email to postlauream@unive.it giving your geographical address and telephone number. Remember to attach to the email a copy of your identity card and the receipt of payment of shipping costs (€12 for Italy, €25 for Europe, and €40 for non-EU countries). Internships are a fundamental stage of the process and we provide optimal conditions for an exclusive opportunity for Master’s degree students to develop their careers.
The Master’s Programme includes an opportunity for an internship, i.e. a period of training at a company or specific sector entity during which the student will come into first contact with the working world.
The internship provides an important opportunity for building professionalism and direct knowledge of daily working life. Through this experience, students in the Master’s Programme may verify the practical application of the notions acquired in their coursework and familiarize themselves with a company organizational context in which to experience a specific work activity.
Over the years, we have set up an extensive network available to our students to identify the situations best suited to their professional needs. When students request, we consider new arrangements with organizations of greater interest to them.
Long-term partnerships ensure efficacy, along with a course design created with the two tutors – one from the company and the other from the university – with clear goals and a professional consolidation plan.
We thus ensure that our students form privileged relationships and consolidate their position at the company.

Master’s degree internships are based on a three-year agreement between Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and the partner organization and a training plan developed with the company and university tutors.

These documents must be prepared by the student with a contact at the host organization and sent to Ca’ Foscari Challenge School and the Master’s Programme tutor at least one week prior to the start of the internship.

  • The training process of a Master’s Programme may include multiple internships, provided that they begin before the Master’s is concluded (in other words, they may continue beyond that date) and the sum of all internships completed is not more than twelve months or less than one month;
  • Internships are not considered employment because the intern’s presence at the company is not subject to contractual agreements;
    However, total weekly hours may not exceed 40 and there must be a lunch break during full-time days. Any hours of leave must be agreed upon by the company and intern;
  • The minimum duration of the internship depends on the number of credits in the Master’s Programme. In other words, the number of hours must be sufficient to obtain the CFUs indicated in the syllabus (one credit will be assigned per every 25 hours of activity);
  • Benefits (expense reimbursements, meal vouchers or other benefits that the host company may offer to the intern during the internship): Italian law does not require the host organization to provide such benefits. The accounting treatment of any benefits will be the sole responsibility of the host organization, which must verify the conditions for providing them. The most common benefits are reimbursement for subscriptions to public transport and reimbursement for lunch;
  • All bureaucratic aspects of internships, including notifying the Local Labour Inspectorate of commencement, are handled by the Challenge School.

MANDATORY GENERAL SAFETY COURSE

In accordance with Legislative Decree No. 81/2008, as amended, and the agreements between the Italian central government and regions of 21/12/2011 and 07/07/2016, during the internship period, as a student you are equivalent to a worker, and you must therefore receive adequate workplace health and safety training.

Before beginning your stage, you must therefore ensure that you have fulfilled your general safety course obligation.

All Master’s degree students will receive an e-mail inviting them to attend the course to fulfil their obligation or may submit any certificates in their possession to request that the obligation be waived, according to the instructions provided in the invitation.

Students are reminded that training programmes cannot begin until this obligation is fulfilled.

AGREEMENTS

First of all, check that there is an agreement in place between Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and the host entity by accessing the specific list in the reserved area.

If an agreement is not in place with the company, or if the agreement was stipulated prior to January 2014, a new agreement must be completed and signed. This can be done through the online form.

STAMP DUTY

With effect from 1 January 2023, internship agreements are once again liable to stamp duty according to the provisions of Presidential Decree 642/1972. You will therefore need to follow the instructions below for the appropriate category.

  • You are a PRIVATE entity/company: The agreement is liable to stamp duty borne by the host entity. You will therefore need to purchase two €16 duty stamps, for a total of €32. In the “Internship and Job Management System: Companies Section”, which you will access in the following step, there are two ways to pay the tax:
    • using the university PagoPA system, which will pay stamp duty virtually, pursuant to Art. 15 of Presidential Decree 642/1972;
    • or virtually, pursuant to Art. 15 of Presidential Decree 642/1972, with the relevant authorisation from the Italian Agency of Revenue, which you have obtained. The details of the authorisation will need to be entered into the form for applying for a new agreement.

  • You are a member of the PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION: Per Art. 7 of the Agreement, stamp duty is borne by the promoting entity.
  • You are VOLUNTARY SECTOR ENTITY (pursuant to Legislative Decree 117 of 03/07/2017, published in Official Journal 179 of 02/08/2017): The agreement is exempt from stamp duty as the host entity is a voluntary sector entity, pursuant to the Voluntary Sector Code, Legislative Decree 117 of 03/07/2017, published in Official Journal 179 of 02/08/2017.

IN ITALY

If no agreement exists, one must be completed following the instructions below.

  • Connect to the page “Internship and Job Management System: Companies Section” and click on the option “Register”.
  • Register your company details (only the first time you use the service), filling in the related fields.
  • Wait for the e-mail with your access credentials and use them to access the Internship and Job Management System.
  • Fill in all fields of the form to apply for a new agreement and when you are done filling them in click on the “Send Request” button: the text of the agreement to be downloaded and signed will be automatically generated.
  • View the document, “Obligations of the host entity – personal data”, which will be sent to you after the agreement has been signed by both parties in accordance with Art. 8 “Personal data processing” of the agreement;
  • In the field of the form entitled “E-mail for communications regarding personal data processing” provide an e-mail address for the company/entity to be contacted in the event of need relating to data processing.

After the agreement has been automatically generated in the Internship Management System in PDF/A format and downloaded, the legal representative must apply his or her certified digital signature. The formats accepted are: preferably the pades format (.pdf), or the cades format (.pdf.p7m).

Agreements with the following types of signature will not be accepted:

  • by hand
  • scanned
  • image format

The digitally signed agreement must be uploaded in the “Send Agreement” box and sent by clicking on “Validate and Send”.

PLEASE NOTE: In the absence of a certified digital signature, for private and voluntary sector entities only, you will be required to print the agreement generated in the Internship Management System, have it signed with original hand signature by the legal representative and sent by registered mail to: Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia, Ufficio Career Service – Settore Tirocini Italia, Dorsoduro 3246 – 30123 Venice.

The agreement will be activated within ten business days of uploading to the Internship Management System. If there are errors or the agreement has been sent by registered letter, the activation procedure may require more time. As soon as the agreement enters into effect, you will receive an e-mail confirming its approval and the document countersigned by the university will be uploaded to the Internship Management System.

We will also return to you a countersigned copy of the agreement, along with the Obligations of the Host Entity – personal data officer, via certified e-mail (PEC) or e-mail where PEC is not available.

Only once the agreement has entered into force will the intern be able to fill in the training project from his or her reserved area.
The intern may verify the state of activation of the agreement by searching for the company’s name in the list of participating companies in his or her reserved area.

ABROAD

In order to activate an internship, the host entity must enter into an agreement with the university. If an agreement has already been entered into recently, the training project may be prepared in accordance with the company and university tutors.

If there is still no agreement with the entity (or the agreement is not recent), the company/entity must enter into an agreement with our university using the Internship Management System through the specific online application, completing all steps indicated on the page Offering and activating internships abroad;

It is highly recommended that the procedure be activated at least a month and a half before the internship begins to prepare the initial documentation and put the relevant insurance policies into place.
After receiving the documentation and performing the specific verification, we will put the agreement online, so that you may proceed with the training project.

For students with non-EU citizenship, the expiry and renewal of their permits of stay must be verified before their departure. Consult the Orientation and Reception Department for any doubts.

TRAINING PROJECT AND RELATED DOCUMENTATION

IN ITALY

After receiving a positive opinion from their university tutors, interns must prepare a training project, reaching an agreement with the company tutor regarding the location, period, time, method of execution (in physical presence or hybrid formula), the activities to be performed and any benefits (reimbursement of expenses, cafeteria, etc.) for the internship.

Interns should complete the training project in their Reserved Area > Internship in Italy > Internship set-up and management and have it signed by their company tutor and university tutor (usually the Director of the Master’s Programme), in addition to signing it themselves, and send it by e-mail to the Master’s Programme tutor ten days before the beginning of the internship. At the same time, the intern must sign the Intern’s Declaration of Responsibility generated along with the training project. It is all sent to the tutor.

The host entity and student will need to have a copy of the training project signed by all parties before the internship begins. For the purposes of any monitoring or participation in financed tenders, the intern must keep a copy of all documentation, including a copy of the training project, bearing all three signatures in the original. Ca’ Foscari Challenge School will submit the report to the competent Local Labour Inspectorate by e-mail.

If during the internship there are trips to offices other than that specified, please indicate this under the item “objectives and methods of the internship”. If this has not been specified in the training project, an ad hoc form will need to be completed in the event of travel (see the section “Conduct and conclusion of the internship”). Internships in Italy can currently be held in physical presence, remotely or in hybrid mode.

ABROAD

After reaching an agreement with your company tutor and receiving a favourable opinion from your university tutor: you will have to prepare a training project using the online application, following this procedure: complete the training project in English.

The system generates:

  •  a memorandum;
  •  three copies of the training project;
  •  an attendance register;
  •  the intern’s declaration of responsibility.

All copies of the training project must bear the signature of the university tutor, company tutor and the intern and the documents must be sent to the Master’s Programme tutor at least ten days before the internship begins. At the same time, the intern must sign the Intern’s Declaration of Responsibility generated along with the training project. It is all sent to the tutor.

CONDUCT AND CONCLUSION OF THE INTERNSHIP

Along with the training project, an attendance register is generated. This document is used to record the intern’s presence at the company and the number of hours completed.
It must be completed as accurately as possible for safety and insurance reasons, as well to ensure recognition of credit. Accordingly, it must be updated daily by the intern during the internship, recording the hours of presence, countersigned by the company tutor.

IN ITALY

At the end of the internship, you must send the final scanned documentation by e-mail to the address master.challengeschool@unive.it and to the Master’s Programme tutor.

Along with the company tutor, you must also complete the final questionnaires: to ensure that the applications function properly, the “internship questionnaire” must be completed first. The company tutor will then receive an e-mail with access to the questionnaire. The internship questionnaire is available at the following address: Reserved area > Internship in Italy > Start and management of internship > Complete questionnaire.

In the event of changes to the training project (extension, interruption, travel, days, hours, company tutor, etc.), complete the training project change form.

This form, completed and signed, must be sent scanned by e-mail to the address master.challengeschool@unive.it and to the Master’s Programme tutor in appropriate advance of the planned date of the travel/change.

ABROAD

Half-way through the internship period, the intern must complete the Intermediate assessment questionnaire.

Interruptions, extensions and travel must be reported to the International Internship Department, along with modifications to the Training Project – Training Agreement that relate to early interruptions, extensions or travel, by e-mail to the address stage.estero@unive.it appropriately in advance. The Interruption, extension or travel form prepared for the mandatory communications required by law must be used.

Once the internship has been concluded, you must send the final documentation to the International Internship Department in the original during office hours or by e-mail (as a single PDF file), within 15 days of conclusion.

Along with the company tutor, you must also complete the final questionnaires: to ensure that the applications function properly, the “internship questionnaire” must be completed first. The company tutor will then receive an e-mail with access to the questionnaire. The internship questionnaire is available by connecting to the Reserved Area > Internship Abroad > Setup and management of traineeships abroad
